Summer is almost here, making now the perfect time to give your home a quick check-up.
Take a walk around your property, spot the areas that need attention and make a list of the small repairs, maintenance jobs and updates you want to tackle.
Here are 10 things to check before summer:
1. Roof
Look for cracked or missing tiles, damaged roof sheeting, worn waterproofing or signs of leaks.
2. Gutters
Clear leaves and debris and check that gutters and downpipes are secure and flowing properly.
3. Exterior Walls
Look for cracks, peeling paint and damaged sealant around windows and doors.
4. Damp
Check walls and ceilings for discolouration, bubbling paint or other signs of unwanted moisture.
5. Plumbing
Inspect taps, toilets, pipes and outdoor fittings for leaks or drips.
6. Electrical
Check plugs, extension leads, outdoor lighting and visible fittings for signs of wear or damage. Leave electrical repairs to a suitably qualified professional.
7. Windows & Doors
Make sure windows and doors open, close and lock properly, and check hinges, handles and seals.
8. Garden
Inspect hoses, watering equipment and garden tools, and make a list of any pruning, lawn care or tidying that needs doing.
9. Outdoor Areas
Check patios, decks, paving, braai areas, fences and outdoor furniture for anything that needs cleaning, repairing or refreshing.
10. DIY Essentials
Take stock of your tools and supplies so you know exactly what you need to tackle your summer maintenance list.
