Make a lovely bedroom suite set
What you will need:
- 32mm MelaWood (in the finish of your choice)
- 1 of 400 x 1200mm (dresser top)
- 1 of 400 x 1136mm (dresser shelf)
- 2 of 400 x 728mm (dresser sides)
- 3 of 400 x 500mm (table/stool tops)
- 6 of 400 x 468mm (table/stool sides)
- 3 of 400 x 436mm (table/stool shelf)
Method:
- Always keep things neat, work on a level surface and use the tape measure to keep things lined up and even. You’ll feel a lot better about your project if you know that you have put in the extra effort.
- Start with the sides of the dresser. Place 2 brackets at the top of each side, mark their position, drill the pilot holes and then attach the brackets using the wood screws.
- Lay the top of the dresser face down, take one side at a time and position it so that all of the edges are flush. Mark the screw positions, drill the pilot holes and then put everything together with the wood screws.
- Keep the unit on its back, don’t try and move it until you have attached the shelf as the shelf provides additional support. Position the shelf where you would like it to be, remember to keep it high enough so that you won’t bash your knees. Use a tape measure to check that it is even on both sides and then mark the position with a pencil.
- Take the shelf out, affix the 4 brackets on the bottom of the shelf (2 on each side), don’t forget to measure, mark and drill pilot holes! You can then position the shelf inside the dresser using the pencil marks and screw it in using the same method.
- While the unit is still on its back, use the Stanley knife to cut the edging strip to fit the edges that you will be putting it onto. Remember, measure twice, cut once.
- Apply the contact adhesive to the edges that you will be applying the edging strips to, wait 10 minutes for it to set and then carefully align it so that it is flush. Press down firmly and make it sticks well all along the edge. Carefully cut off any excess.
- Use the soft cloth and shoe polish to finish off the edges nicely.
- The best part about this project is that all 4 units are put together in the same way! So simple! Have fun, and don’t forget to keep things neat!
