How to make a nifty storage chest
What you will need:
- SupaWood pieces or suitable alternative:
- Two 450mm x 450mm (for the short sides)
- One 968mm x 418mm (for the base)
Two 968mm x 450mm (front and back) - Three 430mm x 50mm (Strips on the base)
One 475mm x 1050mm (for the lid)
Method:
- Fasten the two short sides to the front piece of wood. Drill pilot holes near the edge of the short sides in the top, middle and bottom and then screw the sides into the sides of the front piece.
- Drill the back piece to the side pieces the same way as the front was done.
- Slide the base into the chest, drill holes from the side panels into the base on all four sides, then fasten with screws.
- Turn the box upside down and place the 3 base strips on the bottom, an equal width apart from each other. Drill holes into the ends of each strips. Put wood glue on each strip and fasten them onto the box with the screws.
- When fitting the lid ensure that there is 25mm overhanging on each side. Once you have ensured that the lid is flush with the back of the chest drill and screw the hinge in – first fitting it to the top of the lid and then to the back the chest.
- Ensure the strut is straight. Place the lid in an upright position and put the strut between one of the hinges and one the chest sides. Once you are sure the strut can bend without hassles mark the ideal spot with a pencil and screw the strut into the lid and sides.
- You now have a lovely chest for the foot of your bed or for any storage need you might have.
