Hewitt Street Mica and Benoni Mica proudly become Mega Mica stores!

Hewitt Street Mica and Benoni Mica have a long and proud history with the Mica brand. They were among the first hardware retailers to join the Mica group and have been part of the incredible journey of Mica, witnessing and supporting the brand as it grew from strength to strength.

Today, these two stores are part of a strong family conglomerate of six exceptional Mica stores. However, they had their roots in a small independent hardware store opened by Previn Daya in 1980, called Hewitt Street DIY and Garden Centre. Previn’s brothers, Nareen, Mac, Monty and Geetesh joined the business 3 years after inception. Nareen later became the manager of Benoni Mica, which originally opened 10 years after the Hewitt Street store.  Today, Hewitt Street Mega Mica is still run by Previn joined by his son Himal Daya.

The stores initially traded as independent hardware stores before joining Mica.

With humble beginnings in Hewitt Street’s 20m² store, Previn, Nareen and their family members grew it into a much larger store with Benoni Mica, Airfield Mica, Lenasia Mica Paint and Hardware, Lenasia Mica Build, and Parkrand Mica following in the store’s footsteps.

The Mica franchise allowed these retailers to better brand their stores, merchandise better and market better – allowing their customers a wider range of choice and a superior customer experience.

The Daya family are now celebrating 43 years of business and to mark the incredible milestone, Benoni Mica and Hewitt Street Mica have launched into Mega Mica stores.

The Mega Mica category – means that Mica stores can now offer benefits for both customers and store owners alike.  Mega Mica stores offer bigger promotions with an even wider range of products for customers to choose from. Stores can also offer Mid-Month promotions, meaning there are even more incredible specials for customers to choose from!

Upon Hewitt Street Mega Mica’s launch, the excitement and calibre of becoming a Mega Mica began drawing consumers from wider areas, thanks to the brand recognition. Customers also enjoyed a better in-store experience with superb product layouts, easy navigation, and friendly staff that are always willing to assist and give out expert advice.

Benoni Mica is soon to hold its official relaunch as a Mega Mica too and customers can look forward to more great brands at great prices – especially in the areas of paint and power tools where Benoni Mica has always outshone the competition!

Nareen is thrilled that layouts have been changed to improve the shopping experience for customers. He says that “becoming a Mega Mica establishes our presence as a big hardware store in the industry”. So, customers can look forward to their local community store offering big hardware store deals while maintaining personalised service and products tailored to the unique needs of the community.
